When Art & Cocktails Collide!

It’s not long to go now until you can finally come and see us here at Jimi Loves Gloria, thanks to lockdown restrictions now being eased around the UK… and we can’t wait to welcome you all back with open arms!

We’re open and taking bookings from July 4th, so if you are champing at the bit for a delicious cocktail or several in Soho this summer, make sure you give us a call.

But in the meantime, you’re going to have to continue making cocktails at home for a few more days – and what could be more fun than mixing art and alcohol this Friday night?

Check out this interesting piece on the ARTnews website, delving into museums around the world have been holding online happy hours over the last few months to help them engage and connect with all of us stuck at home, missing out on culture and the arts.

Some museums have taken this idea even further, apparently, coming up with new cocktail recipes inspired by works in their collections and finding drinks that complement the art.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, for example, came up with Fugue in Yellow, a gin-based drink inspired by The Yellow Scale, a self-portrait by Czech artist Frantisek Kupka and one of the gallery’s most popular works.

Events beverage manager invented the drink, saying: “That painting really spoke to me. It looked like he needed a cocktail.”

Maybe you could come up with your own drinks recipes inspired by your own favourite works of art. We’d love to hear what you come up with so make sure you tell us when you come and see us here at Jimi Loves Gloria for cocktails in Soho in a week or so!
